About Miles Diment-Smith and Southern Woodwind Workshop:

From the age of 9, armed with a busted old trombone and a beginner’s method book, music has been the focal point of my life. I have been studying, performing, and teaching music ever since childhood. I have studied music at the Sydney Conservatorium, instrument repair in the USA, taught music lessons at schools in Sydney and Brisbane, performed with big bands, orchestras, operas, ska bands, and just about any other group you can fit a horn into.

I moved to the USA in 2015 to train in woodwind and brass repair at Red Wing College, Minnesota. After completing a Diploma of Band Instrument Repair, I continued my repair career in San Jose, California, taking in repairs from local San Francisco bay area players and repairing/maintaining a rental fleet of thousands of saxophones, flutes, clarinets and oboes every year from local schools.

After returning to Australia in 2020, I set up Southern Woodwind Workshop in Hobart, bringing high-quality and reliable woodwind repairs to South Eastern Tasmania and beyond. Nobody, whether a professional instrumentalist or a member of the 3rd-grade band should have to struggle against their own instrument. Southern Woodwind Workshop strives to keep your instrument operating effortlessly for as long as possible. All instruments bought or fully serviced at Southern Woodwind Workshop come with a 6-month guarantee of materials and workmanship. Consultations, quotes, advice, and even some minor repairs are provided free of charge, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
